About Lyons Community Montessori
Location
Lyons Community Montessori is located in downtown Lyons off the main thoroughfare. Because we wish to provide a safe learning environment for our children, we do not include our physical address in print.
The Details about LCM
Lyons Community Montessori opened its doors January 10, 2005. This landmark event would not have happened were it not for the parents of our students and members of our local community, who were integral to our success. Parents play a vital role in the health of LCM and we encourage parents to come observe their children at any time.
The LCM school year runs from the day after Labor Day to closing, which is dictated by the St. Vrain School District calendar. Throughout the school year, two Montessori-certified teachers instruct 15 children. We also offer a summer program from June to July. We are closed during the month of August to allow our teachers a chance to rejuvenate their creativity.
We offer a varied learning schedule and range of pricing, and daycare as well (8:00-9:00 AM, 3:30-5:30 PM). Drop-in daycare is also available.

Lyons Community Montessori Staff
Director and Morning Lead Teacher
Laurie Kennedy graduated from the University of Georgia in 1985 with a BSEd in Recreation Resource Management and received her teaching certificate from the Montessori Education Center of the Rockies in Boulder in 1990. She completed her internship at Louisville Montessori School, taught at a small preschool in Nederland, and was head directress for the afternoon class at Mapleton Montessori School in Boulder. All this preparation led to her becoming director of Lyons Community Montessori in 2004. In addition to her acquiring her teaching skills, she attended the Rocky Mountain Center for Botanical Studies and received her certificate in Western Herbalism. Laurie was also board director and eventually board chair of Blue Sky Bridge-a child advocacy institution.
Teaching Assistant
Athena Toriello DuBois, a mother of two children, immigrated back to Colorado after living in Holland for 16 years. She became a classroom volunteer and homeroom mother when her son entered preschool at the Waldorf School, and she has been assisting schools and teachers in every way she can, sharing her love of children. Athena has worked as a temporary full-time substitute preschool assistant and worked full-time with specific students at Spangler and Central Elementary in Longmont in the field of behavior modification.
